What a wow day we had!
To kick off our Autumn term, Merlins and Ospreys took part in some great activities that allowed them to get into our Roman topic. From designing mosaics to chariot racing, to even investigating Roman toilets! Since the wow day, the children have shown great enthusiasm and interest in their topic and have produced some outstanding pieces of work. We are extremely proud of both classes!
Chariot racing on our Wow Day!
After researching all about Roman food and the fabulous feasts and banquets, it seemed only right to have a go at making some traditional Roman food ourselves. Each class prepared a range of dishes, including, farro soup, Roman spelt bread and honey cakes. To wash down the delicious dishes, an iced Roman punched was also made.
In groups, the children took it in turns to chop, slice and dice, as well as stir, knead and zest. The children loved taking on this cooking challenge and overall created some tasty dishes. When tasting the dishes, each child had their own analysis sheet and were able to evaluate each dish. This was a great way for the children to think of improvements and to prepare for our real Roman feast.
