A sunny and sweaty morning of P.E with Grade 5 and 6

It has been very hot in Kalulushi today with the temperature soaring well into the 30’s. Just what I needed for a full morning of basketball, netball and football rounders! Interestingly, the children were wrapped up for winter as I was adding more sun cream and peeling off layers of clothing.

After lunch, Katherine, who is an Opens Minds Drama teacher, and I delivered a staff training afternoon for Mebby (Head of Twayuka) and all the senior teachers. We wanted to show them how important ‘role play’ and ‘retelling a story orally’ can be as a powerful method for improving writing. We carried out lots of talking partners and hot seating as well as modelling how to implement it into writing. Finally, we finished off the afternoon demonstrating numeracy games and strategies they could also use in their teaching across the school. The teachers were very grateful for the new teaching and learning skills we had shown them.
