A very warm welcome to our Zambian Visitors

Our Zambian visitors arrived safe and sound on Thursday evening. On the first day we took our friends on a whistle stop tour of the five Primary schools from the Rotherham-Kalulushi partnership, these included: Meadowview, Herringthorpe Juniors, Whiston Worrygoose, Dalton Listerdale, our school and St Joseph’s – Dinnington. Finally we made our way into the centre of Rotherham for a special performance of Kat’s Cabaret given by the Open Minds Theatre Group. Our Kalulushi friends thoroughly enjoyed their first full day in Rotherham.

Throughout the weekend our special friends have been on a variety of interesting and enjoyable excursions: from a visit to the Coal Mining Museum in Barnsley, to a Club Scout fireworks display at Chelsea park in Sheffield, embarking on a home cooked supper kindly made by one of our academy colleagues ending with a performance called ‘Pigeon’ at the historical Barnsley Civic.

Today, Mebby and Patronella have been teaching the children a special welcome song and dance that we will perform on Thursday afternoon as part of a whole school celebratory assembly. Throughout the week the children will be learning simple phrases of the native Bembe language as well as carrying out our very own question and answer time in individual classes to get to know more about our Zambian friends and our partnership school – Twayuka.
