Anston Greenlands – Stars of Stage and Screen!

Here, as promised, is the fantastic new video for our song, My Fight, which has been produced by Tristan Ayling of Renton Productions in Sheffield. Many of you will have been there for the world premier during our Benefit Gig last week.

What an amazing night we had on 27th March – made even better by our superb audience! The overriding feedback has been: “Aren’t you lucky to have such talented children?” We are so delighted with each and every one of them; there must be some very proud parents, grandparents and friends out there!

As you will probably have heard by now, the children have made over £1000 over the course of their Benefit Campaign (even without the payment for the single sales). This is a stunning achievement for 52 nine to eleven year olds, made even more remarkable by the fact that the whole event was organised by the pupils themselves.

Just six weeks ago, the children selected one of six enterprise groups to join to prepare for the event. Our talented artists designed and created the thought provoking set for the evening, inspired by Banksy’s work on the Palestinian-Israeli Barrier. Without our determined press officers, we would not have appeared on Look North or on a range of radio stations; they also persuaded journalists from three local newspapers to come in on the night of the concert. As well as doing a fantastic job on the night, our confident comperes wrote their own script and organised the programme. The merchandise group designed and ordered the t-shirts, silicone wrist bands and badges, crocheted wrist bands, then selected and sold a hugely popular selection of inflatable instruments, glow sticks and glitter wigs! A large proportion of the profits was down to their hard work. Our information team were keen to educate people about the important work that War Child does. They put together a stall for the evening, creating leaflets and a Powerpoint, as well as contacting War Child to request sets of the official leaflets and posters. The fundraising team also did an amazing job, persuading local businesses to provide a wonderful range of prizes for our raffle as well as deciding on the refreshments for the evening and baking hundreds of delicious cookies and muffins. All of this was achieved over just five Thursday afternoons. Wow!
