Chaffinches had an amazing visit to Gainsborough Old Hall as part of their topic all about the medieval banquet and life in medieval and Tudor times. We were very impressed by the whole building as we arrived.
When we arrived, Wendy met us and dressed us as Tudor people, who would have lived in the Old Hall. We really enjoyed this because we felt like we had really gone back in time to the 1500s and we explored the Hall in role. Some of us were servants and some were pie makers.
Some of us pretended to be Thomas de Burgh, the owner of Gainsborough Old Hall, and others were the royal party accompanying King Henry VIII on his visit to the Old Hall.
We spent time in the kitchen preparing food for Henry VIII’s Banquet. After that, we explored the Solar where the family lived and slept.
When we had been to the battlements and looked as far as the eye could see, we returned to the Great Hall to feed and entertain King Henry VIII and the Burgh family. We fed them royally with pies shaped like castles and roast swan, followed by entertainment by jugglers, jesters and dancers.
