On Friday 28th September, Chaffinches Class visited Conisbrough Castle in Doncaster. We had a great day discovering how the castle was attacked and defended, what life was like in the Bailey and how the people in the castle would have felt safe in the Keep if they were under attack! We really enjoyed role playing in the Great Hall, preparing the food in the kitchens for the Lord of the castle and his Lady and then serving them ceremoniously.
We found out that the six year old children (like us) had an unusual job ……. they had to clean out the toilets and scrub them clean but they made a lot of money doing this job. They were called “Gong Scourers” and were some of the best paid people in the castle. We had a really enjoyable day!
