Change and adaptation is all around us
Changing and adapting plays a huge part in science, and so the world around us. You can find examples of it in every area of STEM. Cities, towns and other areas where people live change and adapt as the world’s population grows, and plants and animals change and adapt to their surroundings to survive. Technology has changed exponentially and adapted to our new, busier lives, and we change as technology develops further. For example, phone technology has changed from phones with dials, to smartphones.
British Science Week, which took place last week, is now in its third decade. We had a fantastic week, with the whole school taking part in a variety of Science activities which were then showcased in our assembly on Friday.
Wrens learned about the changing seasons, and sang about them too. Robins and Chaffinches presented information about sea creatures and how they have adapted and changed over time. Merlins and Ospreys studied orangutans and how they are adapted to the rainforest, and the challenges they now face, due to deforestation to clear land in order to grow oil palm trees: as part of their work, they have written letters to the Prime Minister about deforestation. Golden Eagles studied the change in solutions: learning that some materials will dissolve in liquid to form a solution, and described how to recover a substance from a solution. Finally, Snowy Owls wrote and sang a song about a variety of animals and how they adapt to the world we live in.
What a great week of scientific learning at Anston Greenlands Primary School!
