We started our week off with a little bit of food tasting!
Our teachers kindly went and purchased some German food for us taste, as we had been doing lots of work based around the story ‘Hansel and Gretel’. We learnt that this is a well-known fairy tale of German origin.
We thought we would start with bread, as that’s what ‘Hansel and Gretel’ sprinkled on the floor to help them find their way home. We also had the opportunity to try ham and cheese.
The bread wasn’t very popular at all, but the ham and cheese went down a treat!!!
Then, as Shrove Tuesday (also known as pancake day), was going to fall in the half term holidays, we decided to bring it forward and celebrate it a week early. After all, we didn’t want to miss out on all the fun!!!
Whilst we were busy making the pancakes, we talked all about how we celebrate this day with our family.Mrs Briggs even she showed off her skills!
When the pancakes were ready, we got to choose from a variety of toppings. Yum Yum!
On the very last day, we celebrated ‘Chinese New Year’,as this was also going to fall in the school holidays .We learnt all about the Chinese Zodiac and we had the opportunity to make a mask of one of the animals from the story.
On completion of our masks, we went to make some Chinese lanterns and red money packets. We learnt that sending red packets is a well-observed custom at Chinese New Year.
Our final activity was by far the most popular!!!
We got to taste some Chinese food, which some of us absolutely loved. Many of us talked about we had tasted Chinese food before with our families and we could name our favourite dishes.
We had a busy week, but we learnt so much!
