Le Marché de Noël Français

On Tuesday 15th December, the Year 5 and Year 6 children organised and ran a French Christmas Market, inviting all of the other children in school to join in the fun! The market gave everyone an opportunity to practise the French they have been learning over the term in a motivating, real life context.

The Golden Eagles and Snowy Owls were delighted by the enthusiasm shown by the younger children. They really threw themselves into the event – from sampling the food and playing the games, right down to attending in red, white and blue clothes.

The Year 5 and 6 children worked in teams to plan a wide range of enterprise activities which took place over the afternoon. Activities involved decorating gingerbread men and stars, playing games such as Bingo, ‘Les Tasses’, the Wheel of Fortune and ‘Dit le Père Noël’, and having a go at a Lucky Dip. There was a range of refreshments available, such as cookies and fruit juice cocktails; each child was even offered a free bread roll which had been freshly baked by the Golden Eagles and Snowy Owls the day before. Within each activity, there was a chance for the children to use some of the French they have been learning in class.

Although many of the games and refreshments were free, the children were delighted to raise just over £100 for the Keepod Project, which is a fantastic charity to help millions of people all over the world gain access to computing and the internet using old PCs.

Thank you once again to our parents and carers for their continued support.
