Morning everyone, hope you are all safe and well. I know you have got Active Learn now and the School Jam App, but I thought I could put two creative/maths activities on here for you too.
Activity 1 – Doubling using paint (yes I did say paint – sorry)
You will need –
- small pieces of paper
- paint in a small pot
- pen
Fold the small pieces of paper in half and then write one of these numbers 1,2,3,4,5 or 10 on the left side, at the bottom like above. Then ask your child to put the right amount of finger prints on the paper to match the number you chose. For example – you chose 2 – they put two prints on the left side. Then ask them what double this amount is, and they need to put two more prints on the right side to find the answer.
If you need to please revisit our doubles song, which I previously posted to help.
Please repeat this activity using all the numbers 1,2,3,4,5 & 10.
Activity 2 – 2D shapes – To know the properties of 2D shapes
Make some shape monsters
ni-n-104-shape-monsters-activity-sheet_ver_2
Here is the twinkl link for their shape monsters if you have a printer, but if not you will need…
- pieces of paper
- any craft items you may have such as ribbon, pipe cleaners, google eyes
- crayons/felt pens
- glue
- scissors – child friendly
Draw your child either a square, circle, rectangle or triangle shape to cut out and then ask them what it is, as they do this. Then get your child to use your craft resources to create their monster. Let their imagination run wild!!!! For example – 4 legs 3 eyes, 4 arms.
When you child has finished their shape monster, talk about the sides of the shape. Can they count how many it has? Are they straight, curved? Does this shape have corners? How many? Can you point to the corners?
Why not make a family of these?
Have a nice day, and we hope to see you all soon
