Merlins in the wild!

On Wednesday 8th October Merlins and Ospreys visited the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in order to find out more about animals that live in Africa: the habitats and the types of climates that they usually live in. All of the children were really excited and learned a great deal. Here are just some of the facts the children told us they had learned from the visit:
“I learned that an ostrich’s kick is so powerful that it can shatter a lion’s skull.”
“The lionesses hunt for food to take back to the male lion. When the lion has eaten what he wants then he gives the leftovers to the lionesses.”
“Ostriches are the fastest animal on two legs.”
“Giraffes have really really long tongues.”
“Lemurs can only be found living in Madagascar.”

As you can see, Merlins learned lots of amazing facts about animals. They even got chance to handle a large cockroach, a giant African snail and a lizard. Children also learned about some of the endangered species and conservation that is taking place at the park.

What a great visit we had.

Enjoy our photos.
