Robins are going WILD this term- wild about plants and animals!

Half way through the term and we have already packed so much in. During our first week, we looked at plants and what they need to grow.  We decided that a greenhouse was required, so that was our first job!

Then we got busy planting.  A hanging basket for our classroom and a selection of flowers and vegetables, which we hope to plant outside when the weather is warmer.

We then looked closely at the trees and plants that are growing in our school grounds.  We also went on a walk in our local area to look for signs of spring.

We have also been up to Greenlands Park to plant some bulbs, which we hope to see flourish and grow in the summer term.

Back at school, we have been busy designing and creating our enchanted gardens and our classroom is hard to miss, with a huge painting of Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ on the door.

During our second week we have been investigating minibeasts. We went on a minibeast hunt in the school grounds, keeping a tally of the many creatures that we found.   We also had a visit from Mr and Mrs Linley. Mr Linley is a beekeeper and has several bee hives.  He brought in an empty one and lots of interesting equipment that is used for beekeeping.  He even brought in some of their honey.  It was delicious, what a treat for us!

This week we have been learning about birds. We have built our own bird hide in the school grounds, we are very excited and can’t wait to see how many different types of birds we will spot.

We have also visited the local bird hide, where we were met by Mr Facer, a member of a local bird watching society. He gave us a very informative talk about the birds we can see in our local area. IMG_2513 IMG_2507 IMG_2498 IMG_2489 IMG_2485 IMG_2477

As you can see, we have had a busy couple of weeks and we still have a visit from a vet and our trip to the Butterfly House to come!
