“School uniform should never be a burden for parents or a barrier to pupils accessing education. This guidance means that schools will have a legal duty to take steps to keep uniform costs down. In all our schools, Uniform Policy is clear that we do not expect children to wear branded items, unless parents choose to do so. We encourage parents / carers not to spend a large amount on school uniform. It is there to ensure that if a child gets dirty or messy within their school day with the creative and fun activities we provide, items are easy to wash and are replaceable. Access to good quality second hand uniform, is available from the school with a confidential service.”
The Department for Education has published new statutory guidance on the cost of school uniforms.
Please note that we do not make any profit on new uniform – costs are taken directly from the supplier, in order to keep the price as low as possible. We love to see our children in uniform with the Greenlands logo, but of course this is not essential; if you’d rather buy unbranded uniform of the same colours, e.g. from a supermarket, you are welcome to do this. Please pop in or give us a call / email if you are able to donate any of your old uniform! We’d love to rehome it!
Second Hand Uniform
Our online shop stocks both new and second hand uniform. We encourage our families to buy second hand where possible, for three reasons:
1) It’s better for your wallet – items range from £1.50 to £3.00
2) It’s better for the planet – the clothing industry is accountable for about 8-10% of global carbon emissions and 20% of the world’s waste water. It might not seem like a big thing, but buying second hand uniform would be a change for the better
3) It’s better for school – we don’t make any profit at all on new uniform. Although we don’t charge much for second hand items, the money we raise will help us buy resources like books; every penny we make will be spent on our children’s education.
