What a ‘Wow’ of a day to start our new topic!

What an exciting way for Merlins and Ospreys to start the new school year, by having a Wow day to launch our new topic, Out of Africa!

Over the course of the day, children from both classes experienced drumming on African drums, listening to and taking part in traditional story telling of African tales, batik-style artwork and clay work depicting animals found living in Africa.

Children have now started learning about how Africa is a continent that is home to 54 recognized sovereign states and countries: about food that is eaten in different parts of Africa, the climate,  sports that are played, and generally how people live throughout the continent.  Children in Merlins were surprised to find out that it does snow in some parts of Africa!

We have found out lots of information about Africa and are currently writing an information text about it , before moving on to research Zambia, which we will then focus on.

We have lots of questions to ask our visitors, from Kalalushi in Zambia, in November.
