We have had a great day kicking off our new topic – ‘The Cinema’, where we will be creating two films for parents to view using Pie Corbett’s Talk for Writing to retell two traditional stories. One will be the ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ story, and the other is ‘The Gingerbread Man’ story.
We had some very exciting activities today, which were based around our first story ‘ The Jack and the Beanstalk’.
We went on a bean hunt first, where we had to record all the letters found to figure out what our two words were. We worked in pairs to do this, and we were brilliant at sharing and taking turns. When we couldn’t find one we looked at our map.
We found all of the letters and it spelt out ‘Magic Beans’. We then found the ‘Magic Beans’, which had been left in our classroom, and planted these. We are hoping that these will grow into a beanstalk like in the story. We are going to be observing these very closely, and fingers crossed they reach our castles.
We then set about designing a parachute for Jack to get down quicker from the giant’s castle.
We are going to be making and testing these next week.
Our final activity was to create a giant’s face using natural materials. Take a look at some of our art work.
